Wild Boars by the Lake

This picture was taken at Yala Village Srilanka. It is situated next to Yala National park, which is famous for its leopards and wild elephants safari. It’s a site which hosts cabins where tourists stay while on their trip to Yala National Park. Cabins are next to a lake and wild boars of all sizes and ages are roaming around the cabins at all times like dogs and cats.

I took this picture on my way back to my cabin at around sun set time. I saw boars drinking water from the lake. I always loved this sort of pics with only silhouettes visible with interesting surroundings and wanted to have one to my own credits. I stood at a point where my camera frame showed two trees at both ends and I bent my upper body at a 90 degree angle to get the boars and more of left tree to balance the shot. I took this shot with flash off so that the leaves at the front are on that visible.

Comments are welcome! :o)

Agassi <- From legend to lies

"Eight-times grand slam winner Andre Agassi left the tennis world in a state of shock on Wednesday when he admitted using the recreational drug crystal meth and lying to men's governing body the ATP to escape a ban."

One cannot deny his greatness as a tennis player inspite of the drug issue that he has claimed to in his biography, for he won three to four title before becoming a druggie and also if only drugs would have made you a good player then all the addicts out there would have been outstanding in sports.

For such a legend, who is idealized by millions, such statements on his experience of drugs could lead tons to follow his path in pursuit to become the sad clown he himself has emerged into by this revelation to the world, "There is a moment of regret, followed by vast sadness. Then comes a tidal wave of euphoria that sweeps away every negative thought in my head. I've never felt so alive, so hopeful -- and I've never felt such energy."

....but as he himself says, "I wore my heart on my sleeve and my emotions were always written on my face. I was actually excited about telling the world the whole story."

I hope the situation changes for the better soon and the most hospitable, austere and culturally rich people of Pakistan are able to reclaim their land, their dignity and their identity. These are not terrorists, these are the victims of terrorism. Let the difference be understood!

We pray for God's mercy and favor.

Skull by Mohammad Bilal

The artist followed a tutorial by Rebecca on Cgsociety and created this.
Artist comments, "It took me the entire evening to do it from the scratch because this is pretty much the first time I was properly trying to paint something and since my drawing is not too good either, I had a hard time figuring out the proportions, which are still not correct. I used the 3 color palette as mentioned in the tutorial and used a simple soft round brush in Photoshop."

One hit wonder which still mesmerizes!

Rating: 4/5

Every once in a blue moon, some no name band manages to create a timeless musical wonder, and even more less often, that timeless musical wonder features in a timeless movie, and very rarely, does this timeless musical wonder feature in a timeless movie at a timeless scene. One such hit for me is “Take my breath Away” by Berlin which featured in Top Gun in the scene where Kelly McGills chases Tom Cruise on her tiny car and pulls him over.

When you are a teenager of 15 or 16, there is a strange fire which starts to burn inside of you. So when you have heard great deal about the beauty of an actor namely Tom Cruise and then you finally get a chance to watch one of his greatest hit namely Top Gun, where you will see him for the first time, it is an amazingly awing experience.

Top Gun is not just about the cool script, (“you stink”)or about amazing dogfight, or cool jets, it’s much more than that. It’s a completely mesmerizing experience, a whole new dimension, a whole new perspective to view life; especially when you are a teenager. So in that moment of awe and amazement where one sees Tom Cruise with mouth open wide and knees weak(thinking.. O my God! He is beautiful, I never knew such a beauty could exist) and then in the back ground the haunting music of “Take my breath away” starts playing with the haunting sound of Terri Nunn echoes in the room... "Take my Breath Away", it’s just a numbing and paralyzing experience and it really does take your breath away. There and then that moment is stamped in your memory forever. It’s one of the strangest experiences while you are growing up, and every time that song starts playing anywhere, you travel back in time and re live that moment. So when it played on radio while I was driving to work this morning, I felt compelled to write about it that mesmerizing experience where everything was in the right place at the right time (Except for Kelly McGills who is there with Tom Cruise, instead of me!)

So one hit wonder, “Take My breath Away” by Berlin is definitely something that I like. :D

Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize <-WTF!!!

Sunday, October 11, 2009 9:44 PM Posted by Black Scorpion 1 comments
It comes as a great shock to me that Obama won Nobel Peace Prize for 2009. I was a big fan of NObel peace prize, and thought it was a award which was given on pure talent and the winning criteria was extremely transparent.

However, this news has made me lose all faith in this Award.

How can a man who is still ragging war on Iraq, sending more troops to Afghanistan, doing random drone attacks on Pakistan(Killing hundreds of innocent people), threatening Iran for attack(without showing any solid proof to the rest of the world that they are trying to attack Israel), not condemning Israel(on the genocide that they are continuing to commit on Palestine), ........ and the list goes on.... CAN GET A NOBEL PRIZE FOR PEACE???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its a JOKE really!

Ugolino and his Sons

Monday, October 5, 2009 11:16 PM Posted by Black Scorpion 0 comments

I saw an amazing 3 D Model of this famous statue on cgtalk.com.

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=813101&utm_medium=plugblock&utm_source=cgtalk

It got me interested in reading more about this and that led me to wikipedia where I found some really interesting facts and myths about this statue. The story is that after being accused of treason, his illegitimate son was killed, Ugolino himself - together with his sons Gaddo and Uguccione and his grand-sons Nino (surnamed "the Brigand") and Anselmuccio were detained in the Muda, a tower belonging to the Gualandi family. There, they died of starvation. The myths and poetry associated with this dire tragedy is what truely makes this story interesting. Enjoy reading!

The following is excerpt from Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugolino_della_Gherardesca

Ugolino della Gherardesca (c. 1220 – March 1289), count of Donoratico, was an Italian nobleman, politician and naval commander. He was frequently accused of treason and features prominently in Dante's Divine Comedy.

Literary afterlife

The historic details of the episode are still involved in some obscurity, and although mentioned by Villani and other writers, it owes its fame entirely to Dante's Divine Comedy. Dante's account has been paraphrased by Chaucer in the Monk's Tale of the Canterbury Tales, as well as by Percy Bysshe Shelley. Irish poet Seamus Heaney also recounts the legend in his poem "Ugolino" found in his 1979 book Field Work.

Ugolino in Dante's Inferno

Dante placed Ugolino and Ruggieri in the ice of the second ring (Antenora) of the lowest circle of the Inferno, which is reserved for betrayers of kin, country, guests, and benefactors.

Ugolino’s punishment involves his being entrapped in ice up to his neck in the same hole with his betrayer, Archbishop Ruggieri, who left him to starve to death. Ugolino is constantly gnawing at Ruggieri's skull. As Dante describes it,

I saw two shades frozen in a single hole
packed so close, one head hooded the other one;
the way the starving devour their bread, the soul
above had clenched the other with his teeth
where the brain meets the nape.
(Canto XXXII, lines 124-29)[3]

Ugolino's gnawing of Ruggieri's head has been interpreted as meaning that Ugolino's hatred for his enemy is so strong that he is compelled to "devour even what has no substance".[4] Ugolino, though punished for his betrayal of his people, is allowed some closure for the betrayal that he himself was forced to suffer under Ruggieri, when he is allowed to act as Ruggieri's torturer for eternity. According to Frances Yates, both are "suffering the torments of the damned in the traitors' hell; but Ugolino is given the right to oppress ... Archbishop Ruggieri with a ghastly eternal punishment which fits his crime."[5] Ruggieri forced Ugolino and his heirs to starve to death, so in effect, he is to serve as food for Ugolino, for eternity. At the same time, however, Ugolino is actually unable to consume Ruggieri: being dead, Ruggieri has no body, and Ugolino is thus condemned to spend eternity in endless starvation.

Ugolino and his children

Ugolino and his sons in their cell, as painted by William Blake circa 1826.
Henry Fuseli - Ugolino and his Sons Starving to Death in the Tower (1806)

According to Dante, the prisoners were slowly starved to death and before dying Ugolino's children begged him to eat their bodies.

'Father our pain', they said,
'Will lessen if you eat us you are the one
Who clothed us with this wretched flesh: we plead
For you to be the one who strips it away'.
(Canto XXXIII, ln. 56–59)
… And I,
Already going blind, groped over my brood
Calling to them, though I had watched them die,
For two long days. And then the hunger had more
Power than even sorrow over me
(Canto XXXIII, ln. 70-73)[3]

Ugolino's statement that hunger proved stronger than grief, has been interpreted in two ways, either that Ugolino devoured his offspring's corpses after being driven mad with hunger, or that starvation killed him after he had failed to die of grief. The first and more ghastly of these interpretations has proved the more popular and resonant. For this reason Ugolino is known as the "Cannibal Count" and is often depicted gnawing at his own fingers ("eating of his own flesh") in consternation, as in the sculpture The Gates of Hell by Auguste Rodin, in Ugolino and his Sons by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux and in other artwork, though this may also simply refer to Ugolino's own statement in the poem that he gnawed his fingers in grief.

Ugolino is referred to in José Saramago's novel The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis, in which the protagonist opines that suitable name for a foxhound bitch that has been found eating its own young from two different litters, would be Ugolina, mentioning the History of the Guelphs and Ghibellines and the Divine Comedy as references to Ugolino della Gherardesca's having eaten his children and grandchildren.[6]

News which should NOT be shared on National Radio Station

12:32 AM Posted by Black Scorpion 1 comments
Today, while driving to work, I was switching between radio stations and ended up on FM 91. Here, a lady DJ was sharing a news that a man in India has been married to an actual BITCH (lady dog) in a proper ceremony. The guy felt that he was cursed cos he was cruel dogs at one time of his life and all his misfortune is due to that ill deed. To reprimand that he was marrying a bitch. However, sharing this news on the National Radio station brings only one thought to the listeners (perverted ones, which make up 99% of all the listeners)....

"Will he be having sex with a bitch every night?!!!"

This makes it a news which should NOT be shared on a National Radio station.

ps: To add to this, the lady said in the end, that, "Listeners! Sms me and let me know how would you feel if you ever hear that you have to get married to some animal or some tree or some thing like that?"

Harvey on the streets of Karachi

This morning, while driving to work, I saw a real life Harvey. He emerged out of a street on the left and turned his car towards me. While he was emerging out of the street, the left side of his face was all black, burned, scar filled and covered with boils. When he turned completely towards me, I could see that his right side is absolutely perfect, fine and spotless. So I was looking at a two faced man, with his right side beautiful and speck less and his left side all black and burned. However, he did not look evil like the character Harvey of batman.

Looking at him, I felt sad not scared thinking how he must have suffered when the accident must have had happened.

May God keep us all in His protection!

Cockroach story!

2:13 AM Posted by Black Scorpion 0 comments
While I was in my washroom in the morning, a jet black cockroach walked in from under the door. I had never seen a jet black cockroach in my life. Its wings were jet black and its lower body was also jet black, unlike the brown cockroaches that we normally see. I thought about how I can be rich maybe if I preserve it. Then I thought .. NAH! and I stomped it to death. MUHAHAHHAHAHAHA!

when u fly too high
u fall too deep
u foresee the worse
yet u never know
till u hit the ground
the pain that shoots
the blood that pours
u scream, u shout!!
yet nothing helps
u r bruised
and u bleed
madness breeds
and nothing u do

Conformist to Norms or a husband?

Before I got married myself, there was a term which was thrown around a lot by married people in my life, called, “Marriage shock”. The legend goes, no matter what you do, no matter how much you try and make sure that the spouse you are choosing is perfect, the living arrangements are perfect, the family is perfect.. one can never escape the “Marriage Shock”. It creeps up on you when you least except it and one exclaims, “I want my mommy and daddy now and that’s it!!!”.

Digging deeper I found out that the reasons for women mostly might be:

I feel like a prisoner!

I hate his mom!

I hate my nands!

Though women care about the man problems more:

He is very filthy!

I hate his friends!

He still talks to his old girl friends!

He has too many expectations!

He doesn’t let me meet my friend or talk to my friends!

I have no life of my own!

More serious ones:

He is a lunatic!

He is ultra possessive!

He beats me up!

His anger is outta control!

However, the topper is this specially for love marriages:

“He is not the same as he was before marriage!!”

WHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! Hold on!! FULL STOP HERE!!! REWIND….. WHAT DID YOU SAY AGAIN!!!“He is NOT the SAME as he was BEFORE MARRIAGE!!!!!”

EEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! Ok… this is what I was banking on when I said yes for marriage to my fiancĂ©. That it seems I can live with this man, based on how he is now. If he is going to change, I see no reason to go through this whole big ceremony, leading me to agonizing pain! To that, they wave their hands in the air and laughingly say… “ O its gonna be fine, don’t be scared!”

The interesting part is, they never tell you the exact problems that they are facing before one is married. They are so much trying to portray that their hubby is perfect, they never tell you the exact problems. However, once you are, then they open up, even before you are through the first week of your marriage.

So here I was about to get married and my biggest fear was, could this happen to me too?.. “He is not the same as he was before marriage!!” I was shit scared outta my wits. Staring at my man thinking, can he change? Can he REALLY CHANGE enough to make me MISERABLE!?

So, one month into my marriage, here is my analysis, as to what happens to the husbands of these women. After men get married, especially those men who get married to the women of their choice, they feel the need to prove it to their families that they made the right choice. That it’s in perfect conformity with their family’s. Now that they feel the need to do that, they aspire to be the kind of husbands that they have seen all their lives, who conform to norms, the kind of norms that they have seen all their lives. They want to portray and feel as the man of the house. They force their wives into traditional roles of wives that they have seen their mothers and family women in. While they chose to marry progressive women but they force them into traditional roles. To top it off, without showing any mercy or understanding.

That lack of understanding and mercy is what changes them from husbands to a simple conformist to norms. The relation of kindness, tenderness and understanding is replaced by simple role playing. Marriage is a new and different experience for both men and women, and they need to help each other slowly get into the new roles, along with helping each other out through the fulfillment of those roles and completion of their new found responsibilities.

This trend is changing a lot nowadays, and the couples do seem more like very good friends than traditional husband and wives. Men have grown mentally to accept their spouses as a unique person rather than mere wives. They have grown out from conformist to norms to being loving, caring and understanding husbands.

So for those husbands, who have turned into conformist to norms and are just ultra possessive, commanding, pushing and demanding; need to realize they are making their wives unhappy and love and respect is being lost. They need to trust and understand their wives and help them evolve, like how their wives try to help them out. Or otherwise, sooner or later, their marriage would turn into just two people who are living together rather than that of a husband and a wife.

So, one month into the marriage, and its going PRETTY fine, I’d say, “He is not the same as he was before marriage but even BETTER ;)!!”
