Yellow Journalism must end!

Trying to get an update on the news is one of the most painful things that one can do nowadays. The safest way is to read it on the web. As visually, most of our tv channels are following the worse style of reporting and practicing yellow journalism.

Yellow Journalism: "Yellow journalism, in short, is biased opinion masquerading as objective fact. Moreover, the practice of yellow journalism involved sensationalism, distorted stories, and misleading images for the sole purpose of boosting newspaper sales and exciting public opinion"

Just yesterday, Express News covered the story of a guy who bit off ear of his opponent outside the court room and repeatedly, the channel showed the bitten off part and the ear separately, that too clear, without any sort of censoring like boxes or smoky glass effect or anything. Continuously, every channel shows dead bodies, blown apart body parts and violence, without any shame or warning. Never do we see any warning before anything!! its horrible!

Even nudity wise, its way ahead of international channels. I was watching the CNN coverage of Veena Malik story and not even once did they show the whole picture, it is otherwise in our country.

This is desensitizing our people, we are old enough to still realize the difference and to condemn them but this media fever is most detrimental to our younger generation. For them, blood, gore, bodies and violence are normal things. They take them as they take any other usual thing in life like eating or breathing.

All day long, the focus is on the bullshit news, none of the them are talking about the real problems of the people or the system. They can talk about how sick Zardari is and when he will come back etc but they are not willing to ask the most important question that if the president of the country does not feel that his country's medical system is good for him, how is it good for its citizens.

This culture of violence and nudity and sensationalism and discussions on bullshit news needs to END! What is PEMRA doing? Some one needs to sue these bitches!

The importance of Fear

"The only thing we have to fear is fear it'self - nameless, unreasoning, unjustified, terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."
---- FDR - First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1933

However, fear is some thing that we all encounter at various points of our life. There are various stages of fear, the worse kind is phobia. That kind of fear is definitely extremely unhealthy and anyone reaching that stage of fear indeed should sought medical help. However, the fear that we will talk about today and which in my opinion makes life much more worth is the initial fear of unknown.

I believe that life is not about being fearless but its all about overcoming your fear. The journey to overcome ones fear which ultimately leads us to doing some thing that we need to or want to do is truly gratifying and that journey when taken always makes life more worth it.

Just yesterday one of my friends was saying how he is scared of roller coasters and does not ride them, while talking to him, I realized that roller coasters or any other such activity will not be fun if we would not have any fear for it.

The person who is afraid will show guts, take a start, prep for it and then put himself in the position of point of no return and experiences what he fears and then learns from it. If one is not afraid of doing some thing he would find no joy or challenge in doing that thing. So for example if I am not afraid of sitting on roller coasters, I would probably not find them to be too much fun. Instead, if I am afraid, I would first dread about it and then prep and buck my self up that I can do it, then I will take a plunge by putting myself in the seat where I am locked up and once the coaster will start moving, I will know this is the point of no return and I will tell myself, " Its too late to be afraid now so lets see how it goes" and then will just enjoy the ride as I will be expected the unexpected at every turn. :)

So basically, showing courage in the face of fear is what makes us better and stronger men and women. fear is a wall which blocks us from whatever there is on the other side and we cannot walk through it, we can only climb over it and courage is the only tool which helps us to do that.

To live and to live life fully, I pray that we all feel fear and find courage to overcome that fear. Let those be the experiences of our life. :)

"Being frightened is an experience you can't buy."
---- Anthony Price - Sion Crossing (1984)
